WITH MONTY DJ
Having grown up in the Ruhrgebiet in Western Germany and spending most of his twenties in Berlin, 2018 saw Monty moving back to his birthplace, Amsterdam. Soon after, he set up Flippen Disks and got involved in the now defunct Red Light Radio until the Covid pandemic put a halt to most things nightlife.
Faced with this new situation, Monty got busy in the studio, worked on various remixes, and released his own EP “Dogs are sometimes Fishes” on his own Flippen Disks. Simultaneously he started Flippen Bits, a digital sub division of Disks, which saw releases by both local dutch and international artists.
Monty DJ is a hard-to-pin-down musical mind, continuously shape-shifting and transforming his musical vision.
While releasing more playful electronic music via his own label Flippen Disks and more functional DJ-tools via Flippen Bits, his DJ-sets can move between sounds from all over the place. Shifting between various shades of house and techno with a heavy focus on rhythm trax and more contemporary sounds, Monty DJ explores anything that groove and feel offer for the dance floor.
This versatility and dedication have lead to gigs in Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland, France, UK, Croatia, Italy and more with appearances at highly regarded clubs and festivals throughout the European music circuit.
Driven by his need to push talent and create platforms for peers to flourish, he got involved in setting up online radio station RRFM in March 2021. As the programmer of Amsterdam night club Radio Radio, head of his label Flippen Disks/ Bits, and as the producer for the art-focused online radio Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee, Monty is involved deeply in various fields of cultural making.
