Nyra’s musical career began in Sheffield, a city known for its vibrant club scene and rich heritage. Immersed in the underground scene and frequently playing at legendary venues like Bed, The Republic, Gatecrasher, and Niche, as well as drawing inspiration from pioneering labels like Warp, he honed his skills as a DJ and producer.
In 2008, Nyra launched the influential Downlo club night at Dan Sane, which featured notable guests like Ben UFO, Steffi, Baby Ford and Efdemin, to name a few. This groundbreaking warehouse party helped solidify Sheffield’s reputation as a hub for underground music and paved the way for the now-iconic venue, Hope Works.
Following a successful career as a professional cyclist, Nyra relocated to London to pursue his musical ambitions. His move quickly was met with immediate success, leading to releases and remixes on notable labels including Secretsundaze, Gudu Records and Domino, and the founding of his own label, Canoe. The sound of Canoe reflects the eclectic vibe of Sheffield’s clubs where Nyra’s career began. With 21 releases and backing from industry giants like Young Marco, Job Jobse, Ricardo Villalobos, Palms Trax, The Blessed Madonna, Laurent Garnier, amongst others. Canoe stands as a testament to Nyra’s artistic vision and authenticity.
Nyra’s dynamic presence extends across Europe’s premier venues and festivals. As a resident DJ at London’s Adonis party and with stand out performances at Glastonbury’s Block 9, Fabric London, Phonox, Pikes Ibiza, Lost Village, Pacha Ibiza, Sonar, ADE Amsterdam and Blitz Munich, he continues to captivate audiences with his unique sound.
His tracks have garnered significant airplay on Radio 1, Nyra’s music has also resonated with top DJs and performers such as Peggy Gou, Chris Stussy, DJ Tennis, Solomun and many more. Recent releases include collaborations with Chloe Caillet and the 21st release on Canoe, alongside a notable sync placement in a Hugo Boss advert. Nyra’s mix credits include sets for Peggy Gou, Circoloco, Radio 1, NTS, Rinse FM, Kiosk Radio, Crack Magazine and more.
From headlining Room 1 at Fabric to playing at Glastonbury and Peggy Gou’s album launch party, Nyra’s eclectic career is marked by an impressive array of performances and a growing discography.
