Toronto's Gremlinz has been carving a path of his own within Drum & Bass for over two decades, staying true to the core elements of the music and never wavering from his sound, regardless of whatever the passing trends around him might have been.
Toronto-based producer and DJ Gremlinz' journey into Drum & Bass began in the mid-90s when the raw energy and intricate rhythms of Jungle captivated him. Immersed in the culture, he quickly moved from collecting records to DJing and producing. After years of honing his craft, Gremlinz made his debut in 2004 with a track on Metalheadz’ MDZ04 LP, a significant milestone, especially considering his longstanding admiration for the label.
Since then, Gremlinz has released music on a range of respected labels including Architecture Recordings, Renegade Hardware, 31 Records, Cylon, Rupture, AMAR, and Paradox Music. His versatility is evident in his broad range of output, from breakbeat-heavy tracks to atmospheric, dubby half-step grooves—always pushing the boundaries of Drum & Bass while staying true to his roots.
As a DJ, Gremlinz brings a straightforward, no-frills approach to his sets, focusing on raw energy and subtle groove. His unique sound and style have earned him a loyal following worldwide, and his affiliation with Loxy & Ink’s HORSEMEN collective has further solidified his place among some of the genre's most forward-thinking artists.
In 2015, Gremlinz co-founded UVB-76 Music alongside fellow producers Ruffhouse, a label committed to pushing the boundaries of bass music. UVB-76 quickly gained a reputation for genre-defying releases, and its success led to the creation of several offshoots: Droogs (co-run with Overlook), 4 6 2 5, and The Stone Tapes (curated by Overlook & Vega Ruffhouse). Each of these labels continues to draw a global audience eager for innovative, cutting-edge sounds.
In addition to UVB-76, Gremlinz, co-founded Shark with Laser on Head Recordings, an imprint dedicated to more experimental and avant-garde music, as well as The Lee Garden Historical Preservation Society (T.L.G.H.P.S), a conceptual project that blends elements of dub, ambient, and Drum & Bass to explore new soundscapes.
Gremlinz’ return to Metalheadz in 2018, alongside long-time collaborator Jesta, marked a new chapter in his career. Their Gremlinz & Jesta EP on METHXX and a 12” release on Metalheadz Platinum were well-received, paving the way for their debut album, The Lee Garden Historical Preservation Society, released in 2024. The album was met with positive acclaim for its fusion of complex rhythms, immersive atmospheres, and subtle experimentation.
